Birthday Weekend

As a surprise, my husband wisked me and Sydney away to the local mountains for the weekend. We had a good time. We headed up Friday after work and it only took a few hours to get there. He had rented this really cute red cabin.

To be honest, at first I didn't know what to think. Really? The mountains for my birthday? Well it was really cute. He told me that he remembered me talking about how much fun we had in Idyllwild as a kid and that he wanted to me to go back. He had packed the cooler full of my favorite things, and we were off to have a relaxing weekend in the woods. Friday night after we checked in, we went to this little place for dinner. Then back to the cabin where we put the little girl to bed and opened a bottle of wine and talked on the deck under trees and stars.

Saturday we woke up and went into town for breakfast. We ate with the locals and talked about what we wanted to do that day. We ended up driving up the road a few miles looking for a lake. We pulled off and found some great creek areas, view points and finally the lake. It was a little further than the waitress had initially said, but it was pretty. We showed Sydney all the trees and water. She was such a good girl. After that we headed back to the cabin and got our hiking gear on. We got our adventure pass and headed up to the trails. Apparently, Idyllwild is know for its hiking and mountain climbing. We loaded Miss Sydney into Craig's new hiking backpack and we were off. We hiked a trail that was about 2 miles in and 2 miles out. The views were spectacular. After the hike we headed back into town and got a smoothy and then walked around the town a bit. Then back to the cabin for some birthday relaxing and celbrating. We opened more wine and played with Sydney and had cheese and berries. We napped, we talked and had a great day. That evening we had reservations for a local place called Cafe Aroma. It wasn't till we sat down did we realize where it got that name. GARLIC. All kinds of garlic. It was amazing. They had a band playing and we were right off the beautiful deck in a side library with the doors opening right to the band. It was perfect. We ate and drank and little Sydney slept. It was a great evening.

The next day we headed back into town for breakfast and made one last attempt to find the iconic town todum pole only to find out that it had rotted away and that they are in the process of carving another one. Who knew you could do that? =) After breakfast we packed up and made one last attempt to find this other lake we had seen in a couple of local papers. No luck.

Let's head home! I had a happy happy birthday!!!
